A City That Ticks

There is a case to be solved around every corner. The Case of The Drown Man, a mysterious case where someone is found drown in their bed, drenched from head to toe, lungs full of water, yet no water anywhere else in the room, what make it even odder there is no access to water in the room and the communal bathroom is down the hall, yet the window and door were locked from the inside with no possible way of entry, and the victim had the only key on his corpse. A that is just the start.

A Clockwork City is full of intrigue from the get go. Nobody knows exactly where they are, the city has landmarks, but nobody can place where they are from, and the city has no name, whenever asked, the answer is all the same. This is The City. Visitors from outside the city can never explain where they have come from, the answer are usually just as vague, "I'm form the Country", "We are from the Coast", yet when asked where that is or what it is called they can't remember, they look worried for a second, then like a fleeting thought, it disappears from their mind and they carry on as if the question was never asked.

Turn your own attention away from the question and bam! It was never a concern.

In the centre of the city is a huge structure, a building of odd design compared to the rest of the architecture. This monolith sports a huge clock, but the time is always wrong, and even a broken clock is right twice a day, yet this thing is never the right time. Letting the clocktower flee from the forefront of your mind has you forget about it, until you find yourself glancing at it again. Trying to reach this building is oddly difficult. Sure, you have driven or walked past it in the past, you can remember seeing the building up close up in your mind's eye. However, trying to get to it intentionally is impossible. Walking towards it, you always tend to distractedly overshoot the mark, or you turn a corner only to discover you have turned the wrong way and it is behind you. There is always building in the way, then something distracts you, and you forget why you were there in the first place.

This is not the only strange thing about this City. people can change. One minuet Police Chief Gomez is a balling middle aged man, the next time you visit he is guy in his 30s, different stature, hight and facial details, yet remember every conversation you have had with them. The next time you see them they are back to normal, either way, these anomalies are never kept in mind for long, and become fleeting and forgotten within weeks, days, hours or even seconds.

Leaving The City is never an option, something always calls you back at the last second, or you keep driving down the road, only to find The City appearing on the horizon in front of you. But this is never kept in mind long before the memory vanishes from mind.

This is just a small number of things that A Clockwork City holds as part of its mystery.
